At the Mountains of Madness

At the Mountains of Madness
According to Firstshowing.net, and countless other sources as well by now, James Cameron has come aboard with Guillermo Del Toro on the making of H. P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. And, yes, the buzz is that it'll be done in 3-D. I really don't care about the 3-D, or that Cameron has signed up. For me, Del Toro doing Lovecraft is what makes me all anticipatory and enthused. The fly in the ointment is that while Del Toro is doing this, he won't be doing The Hobbit. Oh, well.

For those who aren't immediately familiar with Guillermo Del Toro, he's been behind movies such as Blade II, Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and last but certainly not least, the absolutely brilliant Pan's Labyrinth. So far there's no release date, but rumour has it that they'll start shooting next summer.

  1. I agree. Cameron's involvement doesn't really add anything for me (though I can't say it particularly detracts either), but I was very pleased when I fould out del Toro was involved.

  2. Still, there is something a little frightening about the idea of Elder Things in 3-D... Sanity roll, anyone?

  3. i like Cameron's work, but I think he shoul dleave this to del Toro (unless he has some influence on special effects companies!!) I think it would be good if he did The Hobbit - or if he took on Halo and freed up Steve Jackson to do the Hobbit.

Isn't there some sort of government agency to coordinate these things? Maybe Obama should handle it personally (on our recommendation):

    Cameron: The Hobbit
    Jackson: A Wizard of Earthsea
del Toro: At the Mountains of Madness, then Perdido St Station.
