Snow White

Ok, I am officially speachless. It's been compared to The Lord of the Rings, for crying out loud.

  1. For what it's worth, every fantasy film with delusions of grandeur is compared to Lord of the Rings nowadays, sort of like how just about all science fiction merits a reference to either Star Trek or Star Wars.

That said, I would love for this movie to be actually good. =)

  2. Everybody and their mother have been compared to LotR. I totally hate that, everything that looks like it might be remotely high fantasy-ish is LotR, everything with kids and the slightest chance of magic is Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl has been compared to Harry Potter, for Goth's sake.

I'm still waiting for someone with the balls to make the Neil Gaiman version of Snow White into a movie. Witchcraft, vampires and necrophilia. Brilliant.
Once Upon a Time is also quite a lot of fun (until now, at least).

  3. @ Shield & Jed:

Bah. You're both old grumps ;) I am aware that the LotR-comparison is tossed around by all sorts of people for any movie with swords in them, but when it's used (by a most reputable source, I might add - the NRK, to be exact) about a Snow White, it made me sit up and take notice. I'm sure it's closer to Narnia than Middle-earth, but still. It's not bloody Disney, now is it?

Jed, I agree that Gaiman's SW is flippin' brilliant. I read it to my fiancee a while ago, and she still gets the wiggins anytime someone mentions Snow White - which is quite often when you have a 4 y/o girl with a princess hang-up in the house.

Regardless, just based on the trailer this one will have a few defining visuals. The raven-cloak is one, the sundering of what I can only assume to be a hollow knight is another.

So, yeah, when this one premiers I'll make sure I watch it on the silver screen.

  4. I think this looks visually pretty cool. AS we get more, we'll see how that unfolds.

  5. I'll probably give it a go on NetFlix.

  6. TBH, the main reason for my enthusiasm is that it's about time we get something besides the timid young lass with the frindly dwarves to assosciate this story with.

Also, hot chicks in plate-mail isn't a bad thing any day of the week.

  7. I think this looks awesome, I like the sort of dark, gritty angle this is taking. That large creature on all fours in the trailer looks amazing!
